Little River, SC

What do George Washington, Blackbeard and Captain Kidd all have in common? Well, if you ask the proud residents of Little River, they will tell you all three famous historical figures spent the night in their fair town.

" Many of Little River’s newest residents first discovered this quaint fishing village on their way to somewhere else."

George Washington made the fishing village headquarters for his southern tour in 1791. And before that, Blackbeard and Captain Kidd, two of the most notorious pirate captains in history, frequently stopped in the pirate-friendly town to restock their ships and rest before long voyages down island.

Like these famous visitors, many of Little River’s newest residents first discovered this quaint fishing village on their way to somewhere else – like the famed seafood restaurants of nearby Calabash, or to relax on the wide beaches of Myrtle Beach. But it does not take anyone long to discover that Little River residents have the best of both worlds: an old fashioned Southern village community with a slow, easy going way of life, but only a short drive away from big city amenities.

Though the beauty and tranquility of Little River is undeniable, most people would never expect to find one of the top restaurants in the United States located on a narrow side street in the historic downtown district of the town. The Parson’s Table, a distinctive Fine dining establishment located in a 19th century Methodist Church, was named the top historic restaurant in South Carolina, as well as finding a place in the Top 50 Restaurants list in the country.

Little River also offers up some two of the top golf courses in the area, besting many courses on the famed Grand Strand. The Heather Glen Golf Links and Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links have both been named one of Golf Digest’s Top 50 Public Courses.

Little River is also home to Las Vegas style casino gambling boats. Going back to its pirate roots, Little River is one of few towns in the area that permit gambling boats to launch from municipal docks. Since they began to operate, the gambling excursions into the Atlantic have become a favorite of locals and tourists alike.
